About Us
Trash Cat Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster-based cat rescue located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Many of our cats and kittens start from very unglamorous beginnings, such as roaming the streets, or living in unsafe conditions.
Our name originated from a foster who was a very literal “trashcat” – he was found inside of a dumpster. Trash Cat's mission is to reduce the suffering of these often sick, scared, and/or undersocialized cats. If a cat or kitten is brought into our rescue, we provide the vetting they need and a safe space for them to leave their trashy beginnings behind... to become happy, healthy, and adoptable cats!
We were looking for a companion for our 6 year old kitty, Henry. I stumbled upon Trash Cat Rescue on instagram and immediately got excited! Alysa was so sweet, caring, and understanding of what we were looking for in a new addition. The application process was seamless, Alysa’s communication skills were out of this world, and within a week we were meeting our soon to be little girl, Fiona! We are forever grateful for the work that Trash Cat Rescue is doing for the kitties in our community. Without their help and selfless efforts, cats all over the area, just as cuddly and purrrfect as Fiona, would be not so lucky. Thank you Trash Cat Rescue!
We were looking for a cat for our family, but more specifically because my daughter had been begging for one for her birthday. We were recommended to Trash Cat Rescue and with help from Danielle was able to find the perfect cat for our household! They really get to know the cats before putting them up for adoption to make sure they are the right fit! You are welcomed into a no pressure space to be around the adoptable cats and really see which one will fit you. Our new family member, Luna, has been such a joy and has really taken to us and my two kids. Thank you Trash Cat Rescue for all you do! I can't recommend them more!!
Working with Alysa and the Trash Cat Rescue team — including our sweet girl Bowie’s wonderful foster mom, Megan — was an absolute delight! We feel so fortunate that Bowie received the love, care, and shelter required to bring her safely into our lives. Alysa and her team thoroughly vetted us as the right fit for Bowie, inquiring about our experience with adoption, the health of the current pets in our household, and even making recommendations for how to ease Bowie — who is a very shy cat — into her new life with us. These are all qualities we value in an adoption process and can only can hope to see further prioritized by fosters and rescue centers across the board. We are deeply grateful to have our fluffy girl in our lives and we have this wonderful team to thank!
